The outcome of the election to the Bihar legislative assembly, that will be known on 14 November 2025, is going to have a major impact on India’s politics. The state in eastern India, that has been home to profound social and political changes through the centuries, is witnessing closely contested electoral battles against a backdrop of allegations of manipulation of voter rolls by the Election Commission of India. Economically under-developed, issues relating to employment, migration, corruption and empowerment of women will dominate voter preferences in a society divided along lines of caste and community. Based on interviews with a wide cross-section of experts, ground reports, songs and political satire, “Battleground Bihar” takes a close analytical look at an election that would shape politics in the world’s largest democracy that has been led by an authoritarian head of government for eleven and a half years.
